Today, that is December 1 2018, World Health Organisation (WHO) joins global partners and citizens to commemorate AIDS Day under the theme ‘Know Your Status’.

This is also an occasion to celebrate the 30th anniversary of World AIDS Day — a pioneering global health campaign first initiated by WHO in 1988.

2 objectives of the theme of AIDS Day 2018

It is estimated that currently only 75 per cent of people with HIV know their status.

WHO advocacy and communication for World AIDS Day 2018 with the theme ‘Know Your Status’ aims to achieve the following objectives:

  • Urge people to know their HIV infection status through testing, and to access HIV prevention, treatment and care services
  • Urge policy-makers to promote a ‘health for all’ agenda for HIV and related health services, such as tuberculosis (TB), hepatitis and non-communicable diseases

Every year, in collaboration with market research firm IBISWorld, we gather together all of the latest company data to reveal a ranking by revenue of Australia’s heaviest hitters in food and beverage to create our Australia’s Top 100 Food & Drink Companies report.

This report, which is sponsored by Foodmach, lists companies according to their most recently reported revenues in an easy-to-read format, and in this special edition, we’ll also reveal the shuffling of the ranks of Australia’s top ten companies, the best performing industry sectors, and the companies that rocketed up the list on rising revenues.

Australia’s food and beverage sector is worth an annual $131 billion and is the nation’s largest manufacturing sector, and according to IBISWorld, the top 100 food and beverage companies in Australia collectively generate in excess of $104 billion in revenue (up from more than $100 billion in 2017-18) and employ more than 130,000 Australians.

The report also shows that the dairy category is performing strongly in Australia with the help of increased exports of fresh milk to growing Asian markets, particularly China, and the fruit industry has benefitted from increased demand for avocado and citrus domestically and internationally.

Many of the Top 100 companies have successfully expanded into large export markets, with notable examples including Turners & Growers, Costa Group, Teys Australia, Freedom Foods and The a2 Milk Company.

The fastest movers on the list include Allied Pinnacle, Superior Food Group, The a2 Milk Company, Bellamy’s Organic, and Freedom Foods Group.

Several new companies also entered this year’s Top 100, either though market consolidation, organic growth, or due to their reclassification by IBISWorld, including PepsiCo Australia & New Zealand, Saputo Dairy Australia, Tassal Group, and Huon Aquaculture Group.

List drop-offs included Mars and Burra Foods due to consolidation, while falling revenues saw last year’s #74 – Cerebos Foods, last year’s #94 – Tully Sugar, and last year’s #100 – Milne AgriGroup exit the list.

Welcome to our Top 100 Food & Drink Companies 2018 report, where you’ll find the nation’s food and beverage heavyweights listed in order of their most recently reported revenue

Windows 10 October 2018 Update Announced by Microsoft at IFA

Windows 10 October 2018 Update Announced by Microsoft at IFA

Microsoft at IFA 2018 announced the name of the upcoming Windows 10 update, internally known as Redstone 5. The Redmond, Washington-headquartered company Microsoft said that the next feature update to Windows will be called the Windows 10 October 2018 Update. With the update, the company wants to bring new features and enhancements to almost 700 million devices that run Windows 10. Microsoft, however, did not announce what is coming exactly in the update and said that more details will be revealed in the run-up to the release date. The company has been publicly testing Redstone 5 via its Windows Insider Program for a while now, and we detail some of the features that the testing revealed.

At its keynote presentation at IFA 2018 in Berlin, Microsoft showcased several Windows PCs such as the Lenovo Yoga C630, Yoga Book C930, Dell Inspiron 13 7000 2-in-1, Surface Go, Acer Predator Triton 900, among others. While sharing the new Windows experiences during the event, Erin Chapple, Corporate Vice President, Microsoft also confirmed that more things will be coming with the next Windows 10 update.

At the Microsoft Build 2018 held in May, the company brought several new developments on Microsoft’s core products. A lot of those announcements were around Windows 10. While Microsoft has not reconfirmed which features will make it to the final Windows 10 October 2018 Update, the company is expected to bring several new features such as Dark Mode in File Explorer, Your Phone app, and more.

Microsoft had previously stated that a dark theme is finally making its way to Windows 10 and will initially be available on File Explorer, File Explorer context menu, and Common File Dialog menu. Setting for the feature will be accessible under Settings > Personalisation > Colours. A new Clipboard has been a part of the Windows 10 Preview Builds for a while now. The new cloud-based Clipboard will be viewable with the shortcut keys Win + V and could be accessed across any PC with this build of Windows or higher. This new Clipboard will sync using the same technology as Timeline and Sets.

Meanwhile, Search on Windows 10 will now be getting previews. With previews, users will be able to jump into, see progress on, and disambiguate between files by seeing more information. Search Previews will also be used to get quick answers to trivial questions like “are bananas good for you?” or “height of mt. Everest”. Microsoft had promised regular updates to Search Previews in the future.

Microsoft is also bringing the ability to name tile folders. The option to name the folder will be shown when you expand the folder that has several tiles in it. The names will be viewable in medium, wide, or large-sized view. Besides, the Insider Preview build brings Bing-powered contextual FAQs built right into the Settings menu as well.

When it comes to Microsoft Edge, the browser tabs will be shown in the Alt + Tab mode. It will be introduced as a new feature in Sets, which will also get a Fluent design based acrylic title bar, and the window border will be adjusted to grey. Windowing preferences is also expected to arrive, letting users choose if apps or websites should open in new windows or tabs. Users will also gain the ability to mute specific Sets tabs, and snooze tabs in the background. Tabs will also restore faster. Also, a key addition to the PDF Reader in the Edge browser will be that all tools in the toolbar now have a text description.

Microsoft had recently updated its Notepad app for Windows with a bunch of new features. The new features are said to be a part of the Windows update that is currently codenamed Redstone 5. During the same update, Microsoft had announced a faster way of signing in to a shared PC, called ‘Fast Sign-in’ and advanced biometric options for Windows 10 sign-in. Notably, the last update with Windows 10 Insider Preview Build 17744 shows only a few bug fixes and general improvements.

Apart from all the above, Microsoft may announce several changes in Windows Shell, Windows Settings, Microsoft Cortana, and other changes and bug fixes with the Windows 10 October 2018 Update.

WWDC 2018 Keynote Invites Sent by Apple, Will Be Live Streamed

WWDC 2018 Keynote Invites Sent by Apple, Will Be Live Streamed

Apple has invited the media for this year’s Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) keynote address, which will be held at the McEnery Convention Center in San Jose, California, on June 4 at 10am PT (10:30pm IST). The venue is the same place where a large number of developers will come together to see the new beta versions of iOS, macOS, tvOS, and watchOS as well as some fresh developer tools and updates to Swift. However, we can expect some of the major announcements at the keynote that will set the base for the entire WWDC 2018 that is scheduled between June 4 and June 8. Apple has additionally confirmed through a banner on its official site that the keynote will be live streamed.

The invite for the WWDC keynote doesn’t confirm any details about what Apple is announcing this year. Nevertheless, it is safe to say that the Cupertino giant will at least announce iOS 12, macOS 10.14, tvOS 12, and watchOS 5 alongside revealing some key tweaks to Siri to make it a tough competitor against Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant. With certain improvements to Siri, we can also expect that the Tim Cook-led army will showcase some new HomePod features at the stage.wwdc 2018 invite WWDC 2018

Last year at WWDC, Apple unveiled the new MacBook Pro and iMac models and previewed the iMac Pro and HomePod. This hints at the arrival of some new hardware developments for this year as well. If we believe some past reports, the company may unveil the iPhone SE 2 at the venue. There could also be a “budget” MacBook variant that will likely to replace the existing 13-inch MacBook Air. A recent report, citing some supply chain sources, claimed the delay of the new MacBook model, though.

For app developers, Apple is speculated to bring a list of changes related to Swift language and Xcode IDE. There might also be some announcements to improve the app experience on iOS devices.

Apple fans will be able to watch the WWDC 2018 keynote live. Since September 2017, Apple is offering live streaming of its keynote sessions across all the major Web browsers, including Mozilla Firefox and Google Chrome in addition to Safari and Microsoft Edge. Therefore, watching the keynote live isn’t likely to be an issue even for non-Apple users. Apple, however, prefers users to watch its live streams through Safari on iPhone, iPad, or Mac, or on Apple TV through the Apple Events app.

Jio GigaFiber Tops Netflix ISP Speed Index for October 2018 in India

Jio GigaFiber Tops Netflix ISP Speed Index for October 2018 in India

Netflix has released its latest monthly ISP speed index and Reliance Jio GigaFiber has been declared to have the best average Internet speed in India. Earlier this year, Reliance Jio started taking registrations for the highly anticipated Jio GigaFiber broadband service, but the service is yet to receive a wider public rollout in India. As per Netflix ISP Speed Index for October 2018, Jio GigaFiber’s average monthly speed increased from 3.41Mbps to 3.48Mbps. Interestingly, the Internet service provider had debuted at the top of the list in September this year.

While Jio, a new entrant in the sector, continues to maintain its position as the top telco in India in terms of affordability of data consumption, incumbents have been coming up with plans and offers to match Jio’s prices and bundled data. However, Jio GigaFiber is yet to see a wider rollout but is expected to be available across the country soon. Netflix’s ISP Leaderboard shows that Jio GigaFiber continues to stay on top for two months in a row, while Airtel managed to receive the fourth position.

Meanwhile, 7 Star Digital has been positioned at the second spot in Netflix’s ISP Speed Index for October 2018. Its monthly average speed increased from 3.15Mbps to 3.19Mbps. In October, 7 Star Digital managed to topple Spectranet, which is now at the third place in India. At the fifth position in the list released by Netflix, is ATRIA Convergence Technologies.

Spectranet, Airtel, and ATRIA Convergence managed to deliver monthly average speeds of 3.14Mbps, 3.10Mbps, and 2.89Mbps respectively during October. Further, the top 15 was rounded off by YOU Broadband, Hathway, Syscon Infoway, D-VoiS, Excitel Broadband, Alliance Broadband, Tikona, BSNL, MTNL, and Tata Communications.

It is worth noting that India does not even feature in Netflix’s list of top 10 internet providers in the Asia-Pacific region. In this list, Hong Kong is at the top with a monthly average speed of 3.85Mbps while India has a monthly average speed of 2.73Mbps. Globally, Switzerland has the highest average speed, that is 4.18Mbps.

“The Netflix ISP Speed Index is a measure of prime time Netflix performance on a particular ISP and not a measure of overall performance for other services/data that may travel across the specific ISP network. Faster Netflix performance generally means better picture quality, quicker start times and fewer interruptions,” Netflix noted in its blog.
